The North London Reading Group is an independent network of book groups in and around North London.
We first met in June 2007, and because of incredible interest, have expanded to almost 20 individual groups – including ones dedicated to Science Fiction and Politics – and well over 100 members in total.
In 2009, we were shortlisted for the Penguin/Orange Broadband Readers’ Group Prize.
In 2010, we hosted our first ever literary event – Bookstock – which has become a regular event.
How it works
Groups read and discuss a different book each month. Each tends to focus on novels — rather than short stories or non-fiction — but anything else goes.
You can see what we are currently reading, and what books we have read in the past, in the books section of this site.
Where we meet
Members take turns to host, whether in our homes or favourite watering holes. The host has the honour of choosing the next book.
The group was inspired by the Oxford Reading Group, which is run along similar lines and has been going since 2003. A couple of us were members until work commitments pulled us from the dreaming spires towards the big smoke.
Can I join?
The more the merrier! If you would like to join us, sign up to our mailing list, and we will:
- tell you when there is space in any of our existing groups
- let you know when we are kicking off a new group
- keep you up to date with events and things.
Contact us here to drop us a line about anything else.
